After attending an artist talk by Jefferson Pinderman, I started to question the effectiveness of my art. Pinderman who had started as a sculptural artist articulated the limitations of static art in a gallery and advocated for the potency of performances. As much as I admired his live performances that he took part in I had no plans of performing myself, although it got my gears turning.

When I brought this inquiry to my mentor Jessica Labatte, she posed the question of what would draw my generation into these systemic problems I had been making work about? I then realized short-form video would be the perfect medium as it is emblematic of the swift and dynamic nature of my generation’s content consumption. Artificial intelligence plays a huge role in this content consumption acting as a content curator feeding us exactly what we want to see. AI then seemed to be the perfect tool to make my images perform.

I then scavenged the internet for two tools in particular. One that would color my black and white images and the other which would turn them into videos. Considering we are arguably at the dawn of the creation and implementation of AI tools this was no difficult feat. The result is a hybrid creation that reflects the bleak and mesmerizing experience of living under late-stage capitalism. My goal is for viewers encountering a series of these videos on social media to feel captivated, perplexed, and intrigued. This emotional response is intended to prompt them to delve into the complex issue systemic issues that I seek to bring greater attention to.
